The Land

Our Native Cousins

The Land is within the Tule Nation territory in the foothills of the Sierra Nevada Mountains of California. Our relations with the Yokut people continue to bring learning, reverence, and friendship to all who come here.

Today, it is a 12-acre private homestead and headquarters for WildPlaces, as well as the home of the culture identity projects Calpulli Tepeyollotl Cuautitlan (Porterville Aztec Dance) and Temazcalli Tule River and the location of outdoor venue and special events business This is Outdoor Living.

Located on both sides of the Tule River at about 1,200 feet in the Blue oak woodland foothills in the southern Sierra Nevada, this nature sanctuary is directly adjacent to the Sequoia National Forest/Giant Sequoia National Monument. The Tule River runs right through the land and is the very heart of this treasured place.

Our Land offers diverse opportunities to diverse audiences and is grounded in the power of immersion in Nature and restorative action. We provide rustic and beautiful outdoor and indoor amenities, making your gathering truly unique and comfortable while remaining simple and respectful of the land under our feet.

Special Events and Camping

We host special events and group gatherings of up to 40 and offer a number of outdoor and semi-outdoor features such as outdoor kitchen with wood and propane stove and cold storage, outdoor living room with fireplaces, two outdoor glamping-style bedrooms, 9 camp sites, 1/8th mile of river through the property, unblemished dark night skies, playground, sweat lodge, camper/RV spots, compost and chemical toilets, good drinking water, as well as yoga, biking tours and other experiences in our area. More about the Land…

“The people who live, work, and play on our Land have a reverence for Nature that compliments and enhances our beautiful home,” explains Xico. “We want those individuals and groups who have a strong interest in protecting Mother Nature to become stewards that protect the natural qualities of this land.”

It is an amazing sanctuary and ceremonial place that promotes nature-centric practices and personal responsibility when we are in the wild world or in the urban jungle. Our tools are adaptive and resilient, holding the indigenous ways and traditional practices in highest regard. Those who come are from many diverse backgrounds but with a shared vision. Practices include MEXICA temazcalli, danza circles, community elders, leaders’ trainings, land and water restoration and stewardship, and camping for those who agree with our philosophy and vision.
