Project – April 29, 2008
What?
On April 29th the entire 5th grade class of Springville School, about 50 students in all, joined WildPlaces and 27 AmeriCorps volunteers at River Ridge Ranch for a day of fun and service learning.
Students participated in hands-on learning activities about watersheds, foothill restoration, native plant propagation and care and made some fun “natural” art to take home with them. After lunch we sloshed through the river and took a hike around the ranch where we tied in what was learned in each lesson to what we observed on the land. It was a fun day for all!
The Sierra Nevada AmeriCorps Partnership program participants (of which Ian Herdell is one) were camping at River Ridge Ranch for their spring training and brought a wealth of knowledge and experience to the service learning day.
