Mehmet, Trace, and Josh will be leaving WP Headquarters @ 37608 Rio Vista, Springville, CA at 12:00PM on Friday February 16th.
We will arrive at the playa in the late afternoon with enough time to set up camp and enjoy the area before dark. We'll work all day Sunday raking out OHV tracks on the playa and flooding the area with water to help the sediment redistribute so the raked area essentially disappears. It's a pilot project, so we're partly there to experiment with how well this actually works. Then on Monday we'll do an optional hike, either up Ubehebe Peak or Ubehebe Crater, and return to Bishop by evening.
We'll be camping at Homestake Dry Camp, an undeveloped campground with no facilities beyond a pit toilet. We're asking volunteers to bring their own food, water, TP, camping gear, and emergency vehicle supplies. We'll provide extra snacks, work gloves, and tools.
Bring close-toed sturdy shoes, layered non-cotton clothing including a rain jacket, special dietary needs, medical history, parent permission or liability release.
