Why?
The Tule River is a beautiful river that needs your help. Heavy visitor use and the actions of a few people have caused serious problems that all river users now face:

• Accumulation of garbage is affecting water quality and
  each person’s river experience. Volunteers removed 100s
  of bags of garbage in 2007.
  
• Graffiti and gang activity at popular swimming areas
  detract from the river’s scenic beauty and decrease our
  right to have a safe and fun experience.
  
• Fire danger from mismanaged or illegal cooking fires
  places river users, mountain communities and local
  electricity providers (SCE and PG&E) at risk.
  
• Traffic congestion, limited parking, and gang activity
  lead to access and law enforcement issues.
  
• Sanitary conditions along the river are affected by
  improper land use ethics and practices.
  
• Local economy - Collectively these impacts negatively
  affect our local businesses, community and economy.

Watershed-wide focus
WildPlaces is taking a watershed wide approach to improve the Tule River and has partnered with the U.S. Forest Service, Visalia's CSET and others to plan and gather resource a long term management program. This program is now meeting several desperate needs:

• Río Limpio: Tule River Outreach and Cleanups
  provide a unified effort to keep the Tule
  River beautiful, clean, safe and open for all to enjoy. Volunteers clear garbage and remove graffiti from the
  river while reaching out to river users to teach the importance of good stewardship practices.
• Cleanups: In 2008
  volunteer driven events will take place throughout the spring and summer to address the immediate need for clean and sanitary river conditions. When looking at the pictures, where would you rather play? Research shows keeping areas clean fosters better care. Our short term goal is to help with this need.
• Education
  is critical to long term success of this project. No one wants to do river cleanups forever, and by educating river users on how to be A Good River Steward, we can reduce the amount of garbage that is left. Youth and youth leaders are the key to the future success of the project - join Río Limpio today!

¿Porque?
El Tule es un río muy bello que pide su ayuda. El uso pesado del Tule y las acciones de algunos pocos causan serios problemas que nos afectan a todos:

• Acumulación de basura empeora la cualidad del agua y la experiencia de cada visitante en el Tule, voluntarios sacaron cientos de bolsas de basura en 2007.
  
• Graffiti y pandillas en los sitios populares reducen la belleza del río y subyugan el derecho de disfrutar el río sin peligro.
  
• Peligro de fuegos mal manejados o ilegales pone a riesgo los que usan el río, comunidades montañesas, y proveedores locales de electricidad (SCE y PG&E).
  
• Traficó, estacionamiento limitado y actividad pandillera produce problemas con acceso y la policía.
  
• Condiciones sanitarias en el Tule se empeoran por mal prácticas y éticas.
  
• Economía local - Colectivamente estos problemas afectan negativamente negocios locales, la comunidad y la economía.

Enfoque que incluye todo el río
WildPlaces, el U.S. Forest Service, CSET de Visalia y otros se asociaron para planear y ganar recursos para la administración de todo el Tule al largo plazo. El programa ya cumpla con varias
necesidades exasperadas:

• Río Limpio: Educación y Limpieza en el río Tule
  es un proyecto comunitario para reclamar un río Tule sano, limpio y abierto para todos. Voluntarios sacan basura, quitan graffiti y educan el público en las costumbres que mantendrán el río Tule limpio y abierto para todos.
• Limpiezas: En 2008
  eventos para voluntarios ocurrirán durante la primavera y el invierno que trabajan hacia la necesidad inmediata de un río Tule sano y limpio para todos. ¿Cuando mira las fotos, donde quiere pasear? Investigaciones muestran que áreas que se mantengan limpios, promueven mejor cuidado del río. La meta al corto plazo es ayudar con esa necesidad.
• Educación
  es critico al éxito del proyecto al largo plazo. Nadie quiere limpiar el río por siempre, y con la educación de los usuarios del río podemos reducir la cantidad de basura que se deja. ¡Los jóvenes son el futuro del proyecto - sea parte de Río Limpio hoy!
